Hello, I’m Alla — a London-based author, illustrator and artist, also known as alligatura.
I’ve illustrated more than 40 books, including two I both wrote and illustrated for Samokat. My work spans picture books, illustrated non-fiction, book covers and editorial illustration.
I’m drawn to the slightly absurd: unexpected connections, curious characters and small details that change how we see a story. I enjoy making complicated subjects approachable and finding images for experiences that are difficult to put into words.
My background is in mathematics, computer science and graphic design. Perhaps that explains why I’m equally happy building a visual explanation and inventing a rather strange animal.
Alongside commissioned work, I develop my own books and independent art projects. I work mainly digitally, but also make hot enamel pieces on copper — a slower process, with room for surprises.
